Double Coupons at Wal Mart in Logan!!

OK...

Double coupons have finally become a reality at our local Wal Mart! I spoke with a lady today which confirmed that they did start doubling yesterday and that it went really well. However, double coupons can be canceled at any time. It is not a permanent deal.So double check before you go. Also, there are some etiquette rules that we need to follow to have better chances of keeping this new policy. If we cause too many complaints, we could also loose this great new tool.

  1. Be aware of other shoppers. If you are going to do major coupon shopping, try to go during days and hours when they are not so busy. If there are long lines and you have 20 coupons that have to be doubled, this can majorly impact the cashier's speed and cause problems with customers complaining.
  2. Don't clean the shelves! I cannot stress this enough. If you go in and clean the shelves this can cause customer complaints and when they look back through the reports and see that you got 40 of an item (of course with too many complaints they will begin to look at it harder) then we could cost everyone the right to the great savings.
  3. Let your cashier know ahead of time that you have coupons that double or price matches. The registers are only set up with the normal settings. Until the policy is permanent, the cashiers have to do the same as a comparison and manually adjust the price then scan the coupon to receive the other half of the doubled coupon. This takes time. They cannot do a quantity (combine the like items into one input) unless you have 6+ of an item. Keep this in mind too when you are going. If you have Suave coupons for $1.50 off 3 items (I have these) and you are going to buy 18 (6 coupons worth) bottles of shampoo and conditioner, try to buy in multiples they can do a quantity on without cleaning the shelf. It will make the check out much easier for everyone.
  4. Be kind to the cashier. Good old fashioned manners should be used before, during, and after the transaction. Using thank you, and please will go a long way to keep patience from being worn thin. Remember these are regular people who work for a living and they deserve to be shown kindness. Even if they are a little confused on the new policy, try to help them instead of being reserved.
  5. If you have several items you want to buy that are comp ads, go to that store.  I know that sometimes it seems more convenient to just go to Wal Mart for everything. But if you are going to coupon for 5 items from Kroger, go there to get your deals. It is less than a 5 minute drive away from Wal Mart and their registers are set up to deliver on your savings. It will keep you sane (you can get in and out much faster and avoid temptations of other purchases) and get you home faster.
So here are the CONFIRMED changes/additions to the Wal Mart coupon policy.

  1. Coupons up to .99 will be doubled.
  2. Comp ads and doubling will BOTH be allowed.
  3. Competitor catalinas (coupons at the register) will be honored, as will competitor coupons you find in the sales papers. (For example: $5 off meat catalinas that Foodland was giving for purchases of $50 or more pre-tax.)
  4. A competitor coupon and manufacturer coupon can be used on the same item for even greater savings. (Example: $1 off Revlon cosmetic from Rite Aid and $1 off Revlon cosmetic Manufacturer coupon can be used on 1 tube of lipstick that costs $4.50 to bring the price to $2.50. Just an example. I don't wear the stuff, so I have no clue as to how much it costs.)
  5. Quantity limitations should be observed. In other words, if your comp ad says limit of 10 per customer, then a limit of 10 will be given the comp ad price. Any additional products will be rung up at the Wal Mart price.
These are the changes that I have confirmed so far. I will be making a run tonight for the Olay and Safeguard soap I have coupons for, so I will be able to get more details then. If there are any other significant changes, I will post them here and on our Facebook page.

If you have any questions or comments please leave them below in our comments section.

Happy Shopping!!!

***~~~***NEWS***~~~***

There were rumors that Wal Mart would be doubling coupons soon. Yesterday, these rumors were confirmed by my cashier. They are going to start matching the local coupon policy as well as prices. This means that Wal Mart, in our area, will double up to .50c everyday.

There have been stores slowly added for months now. I did not want to advertise it until the rumors were a real deal. But from the info I have found, other stores that were started basically matched the competitors in the region. This means that if the local stores only matched on certain days, that was the new policy that they would adopt. Now, here is why I added this info.....

There were a couple employees here at our Foodland that told me that our store would tripple coupons for a short period of time or as a promotion. No details were decided just yet, but if and when it happens, maybe we will be able to get that deal too?

Here is how it will work....

     The way I understand it, the registers are not set up to double automatically. Since it is a trial stage, the cashier will adjust the price of the item to reflect the double amount, then scan your coupon. So you cannot just hand them a pile after scanning your items. Until it is set up, please make sure you are courteous of the store and go during slower hours. As you put your items on the belt, put the coupon with them. Finally, when the cashier is finished with the customer ahead of you and is no longer waiting on them, let them know that you have double coupons. A little warning can go a long way to catch their attention.

Sunday paper insert schedule link

Here is another tool I have used in my coupon search to figure out which weeks I really wanted that Sunday paper. It is a tentative schedule for the Sunday inserts. Granted, here in the boon docks, we may or may not get all the inserts that are on the schedule. I have found that the Charleston Gazette is pretty accurate with this.

Sunday Coupon Review

And here is a run down of what I consider a general "what-is-where":

P&G
The P&G most often contains your coupons for Tide, Bounty, Downy, Charmin, Pampers, and other Proctor & Gamble products. It comes out once a month, and is usually in either the last or first Sunday paper.

Red Plum

The Red Plum inserts are usually 3 weeks a month. The coupons vary, but you can usually find decent coupons for Yoplait yogurt and cereal in these. You get lucky often and find some really good grocery items in these as well.

Red Plum also allows you to print off coupons from their website, www.RedPlum.com. The printable coupons are most often a limit of 2 prints per computer per period. They are frequently added and updated, so checking in a few days a week normally takes only a few minutes and can be worth the time if you have more than one computer in the home.

***TIP***

If you find a good coupon in the insert, most likely it is on the website. Print off your 2 coupons from one computer, then print them off from any other that you can get access to. Sometimes, you can go back in a day or two and reprint these before your shopping trip if you want.

Smart Source

Smart Source varies more frequently than others. You can still find the staples though. General Mills and Kelloggs cereal coupons are most often found here. You also can find Colgate coupons (Kroger has sales on this toothpaste frequently for $1 a tube which means it will either be free, or around a quarter per tube!!!), breakfast items, Tyson frozen item coupons, and Huggies here.

Smart Source also has their website, www.SmartSource.com, where like the Red Plum, you can print off 2 of each coupon. Once again, updated frequently and new coupons are added often.

   ~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~
This is a general run-down of the inserts you find. In our area, we have the Gazette and Banner as our source for the inserts. The Logan Banner has not carried the Red Plum that I am aware of. You do find that on the holiday weekends (July 4th was one), they will put what I assume is any left over inserts into the paper. I am making this assumption because not all of the papers I got had inserts, and there were some which had the P&G, while others had the Smart Source. At least they tried though.
I am often referring to a clipping site called Coupon Dede in my match-up list. This is just my personal favorite among those I have seen. She is located in Ohio, so the coupons always are in my box by Saturday If ordered by Tuesday night. I have only tried a couple others, but she is my personal choice because of more flexibility in the time.
If you use a clipping service, you have to consider shipping time. Otherwise your coupons will not arrive in time to hit the sales. Foodland has their sales paper almost a week in advance which gives you more than enough time to gather your coupons. Kroger, however, is not available until after midnight Saturday night/ Sunday morning.
This only allows you 2 days to get your ducks in a row for Kroger when getting them from Ebay (my deadline is Monday evening), and 3 for coupons from my clipper (Tuesday night at the latest). This most often allows me to do my shopping either Friday or Saturday for my coupon trips. It is a tried and true strategy for being properly prepared.
     Other coupons can be found which may match up for better
     savings. Check the Sunday inserts!
The sales listed here include the Mega 10 sale. Items can be mix and match, but to receive the additional $.50 off to get the sale price, you have to purchase 10 items of the Mega 10 sale list. Be careful to buy in groups of 10 to maximize savings!
Printable Coupon Sources
Couponing 101 (although they don't have our sales, still a good resource) has posted their printable coupon links. You can usually print 2 per computer. Visit the links to see what they have. You never know what may match up with future sales!
Coupon Network
Smart Source
Red Plum
Coupons.com
Also, the Gazette usually has the SS and RP. The Banner usually only carries the SS. Check your papers to make sure they have the inserts. The P&G is usually in the first Sunday paper of the month. Just keep in mind that the Gazette is 1.50 per paper and the Banner is 1.00.
July 10-16 Foodland
These are deals that I found to be interesting in the sales paper for next week. As I find coupons to add to the deals, I will post them. There are some pretty decent meat deals as well, which of course do not have a coupon, but if you have spent $50.00 (before tax) since Sunday July 3, then you would have got a $5.00 off your future meat purchase coupon at check out from the catalina. This could be your chance to use these and stock up some on your meats!
Kool Aid Jammers 10 pk box  3/$5
          I was only able to find coupons on Ebay that were
          $for $2 off Kool Aid Jammers when you buy Kraft
          Macaroni and cheese. I am assuming that you could
          find the coupon on the Mac & Cheese. Will verify
          later on.
Fresh Express Iceberg garden Salad 10/$10 ($1 each)
Hunts Ketchup 24 oz bottle 10/$10 ($1 each)
Hunts BBQ Sauce 21.6 oz bottle 10/$10 ($1 each)
Ragu Spagetti Sauce 16-26 oz jar 2/$4 ($2 each)
          Coupons for Ragu are all over Ebay. Most of them
          are for 50c off one. These coupons double, making
          their value $1. Cutting the sale price in half for those
          who have them, making final price $1.00.
Orville Reddenbacher's Microwave popcorn $1.99 ea
          There were coupons on the popcorn boxes that were
          for .55c off one or $1.00 off 2. If you have either of
          these, it would cut your price to either $1.44 or $1.49,
          respectively. These coupons are hard to find.
Cheerios/ Cocoa Puffs Cereal 2/$5 (2.50 each)
          Cheerios coupons can be found on Coupon Dede,
          Ebay, or printed from coupon.com. The coupon is
          for 50c off one box of Cheerios, which doubles. Final
          cost, $1.50 each. Not too shabby.
          Depending on the "select variety" of Big G cereals on
          sale, you could also save 85c off Cookie Crisp Cereal,
          making this cereal $1.65. You can find coupons at
          the General Mills website.
          Coupons and things by Dede also has coupons for
           $1.00 off 2 boxes of General Mills cereals.
Pop-Tarts 12 ct 2/$5 (2.50 each)
          Coupons can be found on Ebay, Dede, and their website.
          They range from 55c off one to $1.00 off three. you just
          have to pick which one suits you best. Personally, I
          would get the $1/ 2 on ebay.
Kellogg's Cereal 3/$10 (3.33 each approximately)
          These coupons are not usually that strong unless you are
          buying Rasin Bran. You can find coupons for $1 off
          three in the Sunday insert all the time. You can also find
          them on all the sites mentioned here. May not be a huge
          savings, but if you are buying them already, why not
          save a little?
Soft Soap Pump 10/$10 ($1 each)
          OK... Here is where you learn how to buy envelopes on Ebay that have coupons included in them free... The soap is on sale for a buck each. I was only able to find these coupons on Ebay so far. However, the lots I found were getting over the $5 mark for lots of 10. You have to think about these carefully. The coupon is for 50c off one. They double, making the soap free at the store, but you are paying for the envelopes that contain the coupons (lol I know but legalities...). So you have to take into account this amount. at 5.00 a lot, I will be paying 50c per bottle if I use one seller which offers them for a buy it now. This is not bad to me, considering every sink in my home has these at them for easy use and I donate them to my kids' classrooms during the school year. Also remember your Ebay bucks! you get so many cents per dollar spent on Ebay every month. With my 4.00 (approximately) that I have in ebay bucks, I will only be paying about 10c per bottle! Not too shabby!
Huggies Wipes 64-72 ct pkg $2.49
          Huggies coupons can usually be found in the
          Smart Source on Sunday. Both newspapers,
          the Logan Banner and Charleston Gazette,
          contain these coupons. Usually you will find
          diapers, wipes, and a seasonal necessity coupon
          in there. Coupon Dede also has .50c off 1
          coupons for a handling fee of 8c.
Tropicana Fruit Juice Blends 64-72 oz carton 10/ $10 ($1 each)
Kraft Singles 12 oz pkg  2/$4 ($2 each)
Kraft Shredded or Chunk  Cheese 2/$5 ($2.50 each)
Building Your Coupon Binder
For your coupon filing system, just about any method will work depending on your needs. Thanks to "Extreme Couponing", I found the binder to be the most effective, cost conscious, and resourceful. I will be explaining here how to start organizing your new binder, as well as where to find your supplies.
To start, you will need a common 3-ring binder. You can find these at your local dollar store fairly cheap. I purchased my 1 1/2 inch binder for about 3 bucks at Family Dollar. Check the rings of the binder thoroughly to ensure that they open and close properly. Some have a small gap which is usually only a mere nuisance, but it can become troublesome once your binder begins to fill.
Next, you will need dividers to split up your coupons into categories for easier location. I purchased mine (again) from Family Dollar for a whole buck. They have different colored tabs which I became quickly accustomed to.
Finally, baseball card protector sheets make excellent pockets for you to put your coupons in for storage. You can use any sort of sheets that you can find similar though. I purchased mine from Wal Mart (OMG finally yes I do go to Wal Mart from time to time) for about $4.00 per package. Two packages have been enough for 2 binders (mine and my mother-in-law).
To start, you can research different ways people have divided up their categories to see if there is one that works for you easier, but I used my shopping list created from Kroger.com to help me to divide my binder. I have found that having the coupons inserted to where the item and amount is visible works best for me.
You may choose to use a Table of Contents page at the front of your binder to help you locate your categories. The same can be applied to each category for the coupons contained within, but this is time consuming. I find that I can almost tell you the amount and expiration date of coupons that I have though just from sorting and clipping.
Keep a note of expiration dates! It is heart breaking to have really great coupons go out of date before you have the opportunity to use them. If you make a post-it of the exp. dates, you can easily go through and pull the coupons that have expired.
Make your binder your own. No two people think the same or shop alike. If you get coupons you cannot use, try to find people who can. For example, I don't have children in diapers. My youngest is 7 years old. So when I get coupons for Huggies, Luvs, Pampers, or such, I either find a friend or relative that can use them, or take them to our Foodland and leave them for customers who can. I once purchased an envelope with 20 free coupons for $2.00 off Ensure 4 packs inside for a whole dollar from a seller on Ebay because the shipping was free. I simply stapled them to a cardboard square and hung them for the customers. Didn't benefit me directly, but I just know that someone was grateful for the savings. Don't just throw away your unwanted, valid coupons. Most stores have a box where you can donate them for others to use.
If you need any help in putting together your coupon store system, please feel free to say so. I will gladly help if I can.
If requested, I will also do match ups for Wal Mart, Pic Pac, Workman's IGA, or any other grocer in the Logan and Boone county area. If you have a store that I have left out that you would like to see featured, please email me at clayzmom28677@yahoo.com or through Facebook.
Grab your Sunday paper (2 or 3 to start your coupon stock) and be ready to make notes of match ups.
Foodland Coupon Policy
Foodland's coupon policy is pretty straight forward.
Manufacturer coupons up to and including .50 are doubled everyday.
Printed Internet coupons are accepted, with the discretion of the cashier and/or manager. Printed coupons are all uniquely numbered and copied coupons or suspected copied coupons will be rejected.
Doubling of coupons will not exceed the limit of the item being purchased. No overages will be allowed.
Watch for your catalina coupons! I cannot stress this enough!
During promotional periods, for every $50.00 purchase you will receive a $5.00 coupon toward your next meat purchase. The $50.00 is before taxes are applied, so be aware. Also, there is a limit of one $5.00 catalina allowed per order when redeemed. They do have a expiration, so be aware of their date. Typically, this is about 2 weeks from the original purchase.
There are often tags on the shelf that will alert you to a catalina offer. These are most commonly found in the baby section, but can appear anywhere throughout the store. Other areas I have seen these occur are with the single serve ice creams, pet foods, and in the dairy case. You can also ask the manager about any offers on the catalinas that you may need to check out!
Fuel Links
Fuel Links is another way that you get an additional bonus just for buying your groceries. Every $5.00 (before tax) will give you 1 cent off every gallon of gas you purchase using your Fuel Links. So if you get $100.00 worth of groceries, that saves you 20c off each gallon at the pump. Every penny counts, so be sure to keep your card with your check book or debit/credit cards.
Fuel Links points do expire if not used within 30 days. So be sure not to let your hard earned discount go to waste.
Kroger Coupon Policy
I wrote Kroger asking for their coupon policy. This is what I received in response:
Thank you for contacting The Kroger Co. Our coupon policy varies by division. The policy for stores in your area is as follows. Please note that this policy is our most current; however it is subject to change without notice.
The store manager has the right to accept, decline or limit the quantity of coupons or items used or purchased in a single transaction, by a single customer, or in a single day.
Double Coupons:
o Manufacturer coupons of $0.50 or less will be “doubled”.
o Manufacturer coupons over $0.51 will be redeemed at face value.
Ø This does not apply to “free,” Kroger, Retail Food Store coupons, electronic coupons on the Kroger Plus card, or items prohibited by law.
Pharmacy Coupons:
o Competitor pharmacy coupons are accepted.
o LCM or Competitor Coupons may not be used in conjunction with our $4 Generic Program.
General Coupon Policy:
o Limit one (1) manufacturer coupon per item purchased.
o Limit one (1) store coupon per item purchased.
o  One (1) manufacturer and one (1) store coupon can be used on the same item.
o Coupons cannot be used on “free” items.
o Expired coupons are not accepted.
o Amount refunded cannot exceed the cost of the item.
If you have any specific questions, you should always consult your local store.
Welcome!
I would like to say welcome to any and all who visit, and take a moment to introduce meself. I am a busy mom to three wonderful young men and two beautiful young ladies. My other half works for the coal mines as an electrician. I, myself, have just graduated with an associate degree from college in medical administration. Being a stay-at-home mom has been truly a blessing. However, living on one paycheck while paying a house payment, car payment, and other monthly bills, and still putting clothes and shoes on growing kids’ feet can max out any budget.
When looking for a blog for our area ( Logan and Boone counties), I found that the only ones that had our stores (Foodland and Kroger mostly) were so far away, they did not even have similar sales. So I began doing my own leg work. Soon, my mother-in-law joined in on my mission: to stock up on my family’s necessities at rock bottom prices. From then on, several households wanted in on my coupon trips. I shared some of my deals and coupons with others who wanted to know how I got my information. So, here I am.
I have gathered coupon policies from my main stores of interest: Foodland, Kroger, and Wal Mart. These I will share in a future installment in detail. For now, Kroger and Foodland policies are pretty similar. Both stores double coupons up to 50 cents. The Foodland in Man on Buffalo Creek is my “home store”. I will do most of my research here. They double everyday here, as well as at the one in Chapmanville. Kroger, in Logan, is my 2nd favorite. They also double everyday and have nifty online coupons which you can load to your Kroger card online.
Wal Mart is my fall-back store. I pretty much only go to Wal Mart if my coupon is over the double limit because of the hassel comp pricing can bring. You have to have the exact size stated in the ad, and meats are pretty much out of the question when comp ads come into play. For me, limited quantity sales are about the only time I go to Wal Mart because I choose to support the little guy. Our local grocers deserve all the help and support we can give them…. especially when we can get great bargains!
So far, my proudest stocks have been:
  • Colgate toothpaste – 13c per 4 oz tube
  • Colgate toothbrushes – 13c per brush
  • Bounty Basic paper towels – 38c per roll
  • Ragu spagetti sauce – 49c per jar
  • Capri Sun – 69c per box of 10
  • Kraft BBQ sauce – 19c per bottle
  • Birdseye Frozen veggies – 23c per bag
  • Kool Aid ready-to-mix canisters – 49c per canister
  • Xtra Laundry detergent – 99c per bottle
Every week I will share the deals that I find with anyone who visits. I will also help anyone who asks to learn how to coupon effectively. Realistically, you can spend around $30 each week on your couponing trip and cut out around $350 or more from your monthly grocery bill. This is what I accomplished over the 4 months I have been doing this. I also would like to encourage anyone who finds a good price or an online coupon to share with the rest of us. We can all help each other.
Unlike “Extreme Couponing” on TLC, I encourage you to get what you think you will need to last you for a couple months. Don’t clean out a grocery store just because you can. Yes, saving a bunch of money is a thrill, but remember to be courteous to other fellow shoppers. Also, instead of becoming overly protective of your coupon stash, encourage your children to take part and learn, especially if you have pre-teens and teenagers. You will teach them good habits in money saving.
